The name on the storefront says An's Electronics Repair. It is not, in fact, an electronics repair shop. It's a gelato shop at 1861 Bacon Street in Ocean Beach, San Diego, and according to USA Today, it's the best one in the country.
The naming convention is the whole point. An's Dry Cleaning, the original location on Adams Avenue, was an actual dry cleaner before the gelato team moved in. An's Hatmakers in Del Mar Plaza took over a former hat shop. An's Athletic Field Services sits inside Petco Park. And now An's Electronics Repair occupies what was a cell phone repair storefront on Bacon Street in OB. David Aguilera, Travis Bailey, Kris Warren, and Jimmy Blalock founded the brand, and designer Michael Soriano handled the OB buildout.
OB-Exclusive Flavors
What makes the Bacon Street location worth a separate trip is the collaboration menu. Motherboard is a double dark chocolate gelato with Skrewball peanut butter whiskey, created with OB Noodle House. Riquimbili is pistachio gelato with passion fruit and raspberry caramel, made in partnership with Azucar, the Cuban-inspired bakery down the road. Walkman is a strawberry matcha gelato featuring ceremonial matcha from Paru Tea and house-made jam. These aren't available at the other locations.
An's serves its gelato from classic Pozzetti cases, the traditional Italian display method where each flavor sits inside its own steel canister rather than in open tubs. The result is denser, colder gelato that holds its texture better. Forbes, Zagat, and Lonely Planet have all covered the brand, and the Ocean Beach shop was reportedly designed with plans for a future speakeasy-style room.
The OB Ice Cream and Dessert Scene
An's doesn't have the Bacon Street dessert corridor to itself. Lighthouse Ice Cream, a few blocks over, has been serving OB for years and recently launched the OB Flying Saucer ice cream sandwich. Stella Jean's Ice Cream keeps a loyal following. Scoops Ocean Beach fills another niche. And Christy's Donuts and OB Donuts handle the fried-dough side of the sweet tooth.
But An's brings something genuinely new: a nationally recognized brand that's chosen to embed itself in the local food web rather than just plant a flag. The collaborations with OB Noodle House and Azucar aren't marketing stunts. They're the kind of cross-pollination that happens when a business actually pays attention to its neighborhood.
An's Electronics Repair is at 1861 Bacon Street in Ocean Beach. Walk south from the Ocean Beach Farmers Market on Wednesday evenings, grab a scoop, and see if the hype is real. It is.
