Operating on Newport Ave since June 1997 and women-owned for more than a decade, Lighthouse Ice Cream reopened in early 2025 following a November 2023 electrical fire that shuttered the original storefront for over a year. The signature Hot Waffle Ice Cream Sandwich—a fresh-pressed plain, chocolate, or fruit waffle wrapped around a scoop—is the dessert that distinguishes the menu from the cookie-and-pastry direction at Beach Sweets elsewhere in the neighborhood. The shop scoops over 30 hard and soft-serve flavors sourced from Cascade Ice Cream out of Oregon and Double Rainbow out of San Francisco, alongside malts, milkshakes, sundaes, banana splits, and floats. The dessert-only operation skips espresso service entirely, leaving affogato builds to be paired with coffee brewed up the corridor at Little House Coffee. The storefront sits a block from the OB Pier with limited bar-stool seating inside and a small patio outside, sized for the foot traffic moving between Newport Ave and the sand. Custom Hot Waffle Ice Cream Sandwich orders for birthday parties and event groups, plus the OB Flying Saucer Ice Cream Sandwich introduced after the reopening, represent the largest-format work the small kitchen turns out.
