LEGO Galaxy Land Is Open at LEGOLAND California — Galacticoaster, Rides, and Everything Carlsbad Families Need to Know

LEGOLAND's biggest expansion in 20 years brought three new rides, an indoor roller coaster, and a toddler zone to Carlsbad's most-visited attraction.

LEGO Galaxy Land Is Open at LEGOLAND California — Galacticoaster, Rides, and Everything Carlsbad Families Need to Know

LEGO Galaxy Land opened at LEGOLAND California Resort on March 6, 2026, and it's the biggest thing to happen at the Carlsbad theme park in two decades. The new land is part of a $90 million combined investment across LEGOLAND California and LEGOLAND Florida, making it the largest single in-park investment in the history of both resorts. For families in Carlsbad and across San Diego County, there's a lot to unpack.

Galacticoaster: LEGOLAND's First Indoor Roller Coaster

The main attraction is Galacticoaster, LEGOLAND California's first new roller coaster in more than 20 years. It's an indoor, space-themed family coaster, which means it's built for kids and parents riding together rather than thrill-seekers looking for upside-down loops. The ride uses launch coaster technology from ART Engineering, and the digital design feature is what sets it apart from anything else at the park.

Before you board, riders use interactive touchscreens and RFID wristbands to design their own spacecraft. You pick the nose, wings, tail, and special elements. There are 625 possible combinations, so every ride is technically different from the one before it. Kids love this part. They will spend five minutes debating whether to add flame decals or laser wings, and that's half the fun.

The coaster itself is smooth, fast enough to be exciting for a seven-year-old, and gentle enough that most four-year-olds who meet the height requirement will be fine. It's dark inside with projected visuals, LED lighting, and a storyline about exploring the galaxy. The whole ride lasts about two minutes.

The Other Two Rides

G-Force Test Facility is a spinning astronaut-training ride. It's the kind of ride where you sit in a pod that spins and tilts while the whole platform rotates. It's more intense than a teacup ride, less intense than a scrambler. Kids in the 6-to-10 range tend to love it. Adults tend to tolerate it.

DUPLO Launch and Land is the toddler ride. It's gentle, slow, and designed for kids under five who want to feel like they're part of LEGO Galaxy without getting scared. There's also a Junior Astronaut Training Zone, which is essentially a hands-on play area where younger kids can build LEGO spacecraft and run around a soft-floor space zone.

Food and Merchandise in LEGO Galaxy

The land has its own dining spot, U.F.O., which serves themed snacks and meals. Expect cosmic-named burgers, chicken tenders, fries, and themed drinks. The food is standard theme-park fare, but the theming is well done. Order through the kiosk system to skip the line, and eat before noon or after 2 p.m. to avoid the midday rush.

The merchandise shop carries LEGO Galaxy-exclusive sets and apparel that you can't get elsewhere. If your kid is into LEGO Space sets, this is where the wallet takes a hit.

Tips for Visiting LEGO Galaxy

Go straight to Galacticoaster when the park opens. Lines for the headline ride are longest in the first few weeks after launch, and by midday on a Saturday you're looking at a 45-minute wait or longer. Hit G-Force Test Facility second, then DUPLO Launch and Land if you have toddlers.

LEGO Galaxy is included with standard admission and all annual passes. There's no extra charge to enter the land or ride the rides. General admission to LEGOLAND California starts at around $104 per person for a one-day ticket when purchased online, though multi-day and multi-park deals bring the per-day cost down significantly.

The LEGOLAND Water Park is a separate admission or included with Resort Hopper tickets, and during summer 2026, the water park is included free with Resort Hopper visits through June 30.

Where to Stay and Eat Near LEGOLAND

Hotel Solea is the closest full-service hotel with a private entrance directly into the park. It opened March 4, 2026, just two days before LEGO Galaxy launched. The Westin Carlsbad shares the same campus. The Cassara Carlsbad and Hilton Garden Inn Carlsbad Beach are both within a short drive.

For dining after the park, Campfire on State Street is a 10-minute drive and takes reservations. Pizza Port Carlsbad is kid-friendly and casual. And Casa de Bandini at The Forum has the big, colorful atmosphere that keeps the family energy going after a day at the park.

LEGO Galaxy is the shot in the arm that LEGOLAND California needed. The park has always served the under-12 crowd well, and this expansion gives families a reason to come back even if they've done everything else in the park twice. Three new rides, an indoor coaster, and a play zone, all in one land, all included with admission. That's a strong value add for a park that already draws millions of visitors a year to Carlsbad.
