The third location of Scoops, the La Jolla Shores ice cream concept founded in 2018, opened in spring 2025 at 4944 Newport Ave next to the Ocean Beach Playhouse in the former Electric Chair e-bike shop space. The shop scoops Van Leeuwen Ice Cream made in small batches in Brooklyn from milk, cream, cane sugar, and egg yolks—no artificial flavors or food coloring—anchoring the dessert end of the Newport Ave dining strip alongside the pan dulce program at Amapola. Vegan flavors built on cashew milk, organic coconut milk, and cocoa butter run alongside the dairy lineup, with rotating picks like Honeycomb, Brown Sugar Cookie Dough Chunk, Sicilian Pistachio, Earl Grey Tea, Black Cherry Chip, and Blue Jasmine Passionfruit Swirl. Affogato builds with espresso, plus crepes made to order, milkshakes, malts, root beer floats, and açaí bowls extend the menu beyond scoops, complementing the morning-coffee program at Brew Wave Coffee in the neighborhood. Waffle cones are pressed fresh on-site, and the airy coastal interior was branded by Mindful Design Consulting to carry the same look across all three Scoops shops. Crepe and ice cream catering packages for private parties, weddings, and corporate events are the largest-format jobs the team coordinates from the OB shop.
