The Heritage Steakhouse Opens in Santee โ€” East County Gets Its First High-End Chophouse at Lantern Crest

East County has wanted a real steakhouse for a long time. On June 30, 2026, it gets one.

The Heritage Steakhouse is opening inside the Lantern Crest Senior Living resort community at 200 Lantern Crest Way in Santee. The restaurant sits on the sixth floor of the tallest building in the city, and while it's located on a senior living property, it's open to the public. Free valet parking. A doorman. A glass elevator to the top.

This isn't a hotel restaurant with steak on the menu. It's a dedicated chophouse. The concept is built by founder Michael Grant, an East County native who is also involved with the Lantern Crest residential community.

The Menu: Prime Cuts and Tableside Service

The Heritage is built around USDA Prime, Certified Angus, and Wagyu beef aged at least 28 days. The menu leans classic New York steakhouse: thick-cut ribeyes, porterhouses, filet mignon, and bone-in options. Tableside Caesar salad, creamed spinach, and the usual steakhouse sides round out the experience.

According to San Diego Magazine, the 4,000-square-foot dining room seats 125, with dark wood, gold accents, and a chandelier that evokes an Art Deco ballroom. Custom artwork by designer Nancy Robinson fills the lobby and dining room with gold and black silhouette designs.

The Views

The sixth-floor perch gives panoramic views of the Santee valley and incoming planes from nearby Gillespie Field. On clear evenings, the sunset views alone would justify the trip. It's a dining experience Santee simply hasn't had before.

What This Means for Santee Dining

The Heritage fills a gap that's been obvious for years. Santee's dining scene has excellent casual spots along Mission Gorge Road, from Phil's BBQ to Broken Yolk Cafe and Filippi's Pizza Grotto. But for a special-occasion dinner that doesn't require driving to Little Italy or La Jolla, there hasn't been a local option. The Heritage changes that.

The restaurant joins a Santee food corridor that's been quietly expanding. The Stand recently opened its Santee location on Mission Gorge Road. Topwater Grill just launched at Santee Lakes. And existing favorites like Luna Grill, Oggi's, and Oaks Bar & Grill at Carlton Oaks Country Club continue to draw consistent crowds.
