New restaurant concepts are arriving at the Ferry Landing, inside the reimagined Hotel del Coronado, and along Orange Avenue — joining a community of longtime island favorites that have served residents and visitors for generations. Maiden Coronado — The Ferry Landing's New Anchor
The biggest opening on the horizon is Maiden Coronado, a 12,000-square-foot waterfront restaurant rising at the Coronado Ferry Landing next to Il Fornaio. Developed by Social Syndicate — the hospitality group behind Wonderland in Ocean Beach and Monarch in Del Mar — the restaurant will feature Southern California and Hawaiian-inspired seafood, 22-foot ceilings, and direct views of the San Diego–Coronado Bridge and downtown skyline. The project broke ground in late 2025 after a 17-year vacancy at the site, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune, and is expected to open by early 2027.
Hotel del Coronado — A Culinary Overhaul
The Hotel del Coronado's $550 million renovation brought a complete culinary reset. Veranda replaced Sheerwater as the property's coastal outdoor restaurant, led by executive chef Brian Archibald. Nobu Del Coronado added the global sushi brand to the island. And Sun Deck serves beachfront fare with panoramic ocean views. Meanwhile, the upcoming Baby Grand boutique hotel on Orange Avenue from CH Projects will bring Night Hawk — a new signature restaurant — to the southern end of the island.
Island Favorites That Define Coronado
The new arrivals join a roster of institutions. Brigantine Seafood & Oyster Bar has been a special-occasion anchor for decades. Garage Buona Forchetta delivers authentic Neapolitan pizza. Coronado Brewing Company built one of San Diego's first craft beer brands. And Coronado Coffee Company on Orange Avenue remains the locals' morning stop. La Corriente Coronado — the Tijuana-born Baja seafood concept — recently opened at the Coronado Historical Association museum at 1100 Orange Avenue, adding another dimension to the island's culinary identity.
