About

Coronado Brewing Company at 170 Orange Avenue has operated as Coronado Island's only on-island production brewery since brothers Ron and Rick Chapman opened a 10-barrel brewpub in August 1996 at the corner of First Street. The tap list rotates around flagship ales like Islander IPA and Orange Avenue Wit brewed with orange blossom honey and coriander, paired with a wood-fired pizza and fish taco menu that shares Coronado's casual dining corridor with Nado Republic further up the avenue. Nado Lager — brewed with jasmine rice and Hallertau Mittelfrüh hops at 4.5% ABV — earned the 2024 World Beer Cup Gold Medal in the International Lager category, extending a competition record that includes a 2014 Champion Brewery designation for mid-size producers. A 2006 expansion added a dozen 20-barrel fermentation tanks on an adjacent property, tripling capacity and shifting the original 10-barrel system to pilot batches and seasonal releases. The growler program fills 32-ounce crowlers through one-gallon glass jugs off the same draft wall that serves the dog-permitted patio, a take-home craft beer pipeline along the stretch of Orange Avenue where Lobster West Coronado runs the casual seafood counter. The production facility at 1205 Knoxville Street in San Diego's Bay Park now distributes to 14 states and 12 countries while the Coronado brewpub retains its original footprint with the 10-barrel pilot system still firing seasonal one-offs.
