Carlsbad Village Street Faire 2026 โ€” The Nation's Largest One-Day Street Faire Returns to Grand Avenue

The Carlsbad Village Street Faire is the largest single-day street faire in the United States. That's not marketing language. It's been verified every year since the Carlsbad Chamber of Commerce started throwing this thing in 1975. Twice a year, on the first Sunday of May and the first Sunday of November, downtown Carlsbad shuts down its main streets and fills them with more than 800 vendors, an international food court, live entertainment, children's rides, a beer garden, and an old-fashioned pancake breakfast.

The May 2026 faire took place on May 3. The fall faire is scheduled for November 1, 2026, running from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. If you're planning ahead, save the date now. These events draw tens of thousands of visitors from all over Southern California, and some people plan their vacations around them.

What Happens at the Street Faire

The faire stretches across multiple blocks of downtown Carlsbad Village. Grand Avenue is closed from Carlsbad Boulevard to Jefferson Street. State Street, Roosevelt Street, Washington Street, and Madison Street all close as well. Road closures go into effect around 4 a.m. and stay until approximately 8 p.m.

More than 800 vendor booths line the streets, selling everything from handmade jewelry and pottery to vintage clothing, imported goods, and original artwork. The arts and crafts section is the heart of the faire, and the quality is generally higher than what you'll find at most street fairs. Vendors go through a vetting process with the Chamber of Commerce, so the selection feels curated rather than random.

The international food court runs the full length of the faire. Expect everything from kettle corn and lemonade to tacos, pad thai, bratwurst, wood-fired pizza, and churros. Budget $15 to $25 per person for food, and plan on eating at least twice. You'll be walking for hours, and the smells will get you.

The kids' section has carnival-style rides, games, and activities. For families, it's an easy half-day outing. Arrive early, let the kids ride, walk the vendor booths, eat lunch, and head out before the afternoon crowds peak.

Parking and Getting There

Street parking in the Village is obviously closed during the faire. Free shuttle bus service runs from the Shoppes at Carlsbad (I-5 at the Jefferson exit) and the Coaster Station (Avenida Encinas, off the Poinsettia exit). The shuttles run all day and are the easiest way to get there without fighting for parking.

If you drive, plan to park in the remote lots and take the shuttle. Side streets around the Village fill up fast, and the residential neighborhoods ask visitors to be respectful of driveways and no-parking zones.

Downtown Businesses Worth Visiting During the Faire

Several Carlsbad Village restaurants and shops stay open during the faire and see big foot traffic. Campfire on State Street, Pizza Port Carlsbad, Harbor Fish Cafe, The Coyote Bar & Grill, and 264 Fresco are all within the faire footprint. If you want to skip the food court and eat at a sit-down restaurant, make a reservation ahead of time. Walk-in waits can run 45 minutes or more during peak faire hours.

Vinaka Cafe and Lofty Coffee Co. both see a rush during the morning hours. Get your coffee early or prepare to wait in line.

History of the Carlsbad Village Street Faire

The Carlsbad Chamber of Commerce has organized the faire since 1975. It started small, just a few blocks with local vendors. Fifty years later, it fills the entire downtown core and draws visitors who've been coming for decades. It's one of those events that defines a community. If you live in Carlsbad, you either go to the faire or you leave town for the day. There's no in-between.

For vendors, booth space is competitive. Downtown businesses get priority placement in front of their storefronts, and new vendors must apply at least three months before the event. The faire is a real economic driver for the Village, generating significant foot traffic for Carlsbad shops and restaurants that extends beyond the faire day itself.

The next Carlsbad Village Street Faire is November 1, 2026. Save the date, take the shuttle, and wear comfortable shoes. You're going to be walking.
