About

A waterfront cafe, bar, and wine destination at 2688 E Mission Bay Dr. in Pacific Beach (92109), The Mission Bay Beach Club occupies the restored former Mission Bay Visitor Information Center. CEO Bradley Schnell spotted the dilapidated building while walking his dog and spent years navigating permits before reopening the property in September 2021. The design team from Playground Agency led the restoration, preserving the character of the original structure while adding original murals hand-painted by artist Kristine Overacre. Superbloom, the on-site vegan coffee and juice bar, serves specialty lattes, cold-pressed juices, and light bites in a space that doubles as a work-friendly retreat overlooking the bay. Cyclists finishing a ride along the bay path often refuel here before pedaling north toward Waterbar on Mission Boulevard and the rest of the Pacific Beach restaurant row. The property also features Beach Bunny, a rental shop offering beach cruiser bikes and stand-up paddleboards, and a Summer Afternoons ice cream cart. A boutique working vineyard grows on the grounds with the goal of eventually bottling house wine, and bocce courts sit alongside the vines for a European-inflected afternoon by the water. The bar program includes craft beer, wine, and cocktails, and reviewers highlight bartender Andrew for his espresso martinis and cucumber mules. The San Diego Architectural Foundation has recognized the project, and happy hour runs daily from 4 to 6 PM with discounts on wine and beer. A food menu featuring meatballs and other small plates has expanded since the initial opening, and another bayfront drinking option awaits at Flamingo Deck for visitors exploring the eastern shore. The Mission Bay Beach Club is open daily from 7 AM to 7 PM, is dog-friendly on the patio, and hosts seasonal events and private gatherings.
