About

Occupying a prime position directly above the Pacific Beach boardwalk at 4325 Ocean Blvd, 92109, Waterbar is a 6,700-square-foot oceanfront restaurant and bar operated by OMG Hospitality Group. Co-owner Todd Brown, a veteran of San Diego's restaurant industry with over 35 years of experience, opened the venue in 2018 after a full renovation of the former Joe's Crab Shack building. The space was transformed with floor-to-ceiling windows that showcase uninterrupted views of the Pacific, a design that makes sunset dining here one of the most visually striking experiences in PB. The restaurant operates under Sandland43 LLC and holds a Type 47 on-sale general eating place license from the California ABC. The energy along the boardwalk carries right into the restaurant, and 710 Beach Club just down the walk adds live music and a locals-first bar scene to the mix. Executive Chef Steven Lona, who previously helmed the kitchen at the former Tasting Room in Del Mar, built the opening menu around what the restaurant calls social seafood — a fusion of East Coast, West Coast, and Baja coastal cuisines. Current offerings range from oysters on the half shell and sushi rolls to craft cocktails and a weekend brunch with bottomless mimosas. Two full bars serve the main floor, and the restaurant recently cleared a Coastal Development Permit to add a rooftop deck — a project Brown says would give Pacific Beach its first oceanfront rooftop dining space. Happy hour runs daily from 3 to 5 p.m. with discounted draft beers, house wines, sushi rolls, and craft cocktails. Reviewers frequently mention the window and ocean-side tables as the prime seats for watching the sun drop below the horizon. Seafood enthusiasts looking for a market-style experience can also visit The Fishery on Cass St, which combines a fresh fish counter with a sit-down restaurant. Street parking and a private lot behind the building handle most of the parking demand, with valet available on busier nights.
