Landini's Restaurant Group brought its newest concept to 1520 Garnet Ave, 92109, in August 2024 when Slowly Restaurant and Lounge opened in the former Iron Pig Alehouse space. The restaurant was created by Leo and Christine Landini, the husband-and-wife team behind San Diego staples Landini's Pizzeria and Ristorante Illando in Little Italy and Scuderie Italia right down the block on the same stretch of Garnet. Leo Landini, a Florence native, started his San Diego culinary career in 2005 as general manager of the now-defunct Trattoria La Strada in the Gaslamp, then founded his namesake pizzeria in 2008. The couple established Landini's Restaurant Group in 2009, and Slowly marks their most ambitious departure yet — a Mediterranean and Baja-inspired menu that intentionally steps away from the Italian comfort food their brand is known for. Executive Chef Yadira Cuevas leads the kitchen with dishes like tuna crudo in poke sauce with chili oil, branzino, sea bass with clams and mussels, lamb chops, and a poblano pappardelle that blends California produce with south-of-the-border heat. Christine Landini personally designed the interior, which features oversized banquettes, green velvet chairs, alluring mirrors, and hand-painted murals by local San Diego artist Allison Hunsley that encourage guests to slow down and savor the moment. The outdoor patio includes fire pits and lounge seating that make it a natural fit for the restaurant's Aperitivo hours on Thursdays and Sundays. Tuesday date-night specials and prix-fixe deals have quickly become a draw for couples. Cocktails lean craft-forward, and the bar program complements the Mediterranean menu with spritzes, signature margaritas, and a champagne-and-crudo pairing. Garnet Ave neighbors like bar Ella Pacific Beach offer a different late-night energy just a short walk east. Slowly is open daily beginning at 4 p.m., with valet parking available Friday and Saturday for eight dollars.
