Florence-born restaurateur Leonardo Landini brings nearly two decades of San Diego culinary experience to Scuderie Italia, an Italian restaurant at 1525 Garnet Ave in San Diego, CA 92109. Landini launched his career in 2005 as general manager of the former Trattoria La Strada in the Gaslamp Quarter, later opening his namesake Landini's Pizzeria in Little Italy and the upstairs Ristorante Illando with his wife Christine. Scuderie Italia — the name translates loosely to a racing team garage — joined the Landini's Restaurant Group portfolio in 2020, bringing elevated Italian cuisine to Pacific Beach. Day-to-day kitchen operations are led by Chef Danilo "DJ" Tangalin, whose resume includes stints at JRDN Restaurant in Pacific Beach and Tidal at Paradise Point. The onsite pizzaiolo holds certification from the Associazione Verace Pizza Napoletana, an organization dedicated to protecting the traditions of authentic Neapolitan pizza-making, and a resident cheese-maker prepares fresh mozzarella in-house daily. The menu centers on handmade pastas and wood-fired Neapolitan pizzas alongside shareable plates like steamed clams, prosciutto & burrata, and a curated meat and cheese board. A thoughtfully assembled wine list complements the traditional Italian fare, and happy hour specials on small plates, beer, and wine run daily. Guests who enjoy Landini's approach to Italian hospitality will find the same family behind Slowly Restaurant and Lounge, the group's Mediterranean-Mexican concept also located in Pacific Beach. Dogs are welcome both inside and outside, and dinner reservations are recommended for weekend evenings.
