Veteran-owned, women-owned, and Latinx-owned, Val's Coffee Corner at 1869 Cable St was founded in 2016 by Val Fiorini, who built the OB cafe concept around Brazilian coffee traditions and organic acai sourced without sorbet fillers. The Cable Street location — tucked into the alley shared with a neighboring brewery — rebuilt a dedicated following after a forced relocation from the original Bacon Street spot, and the pastry case stocking pao de queijo, chicken croquettes, and Argentine empanadas complements the baked-goods corridor that includes Hungry Lu's on Newport Ave. A second location at Voltaire and Ebers opened in 2025, expanding the format to OB's north side. Live music sets and a dog-welcoming policy round out the cafe program, which shares the same community-gathering energy as the savory pie counter at Pop Pie Co. further up the avenue. Catering-scale acai bowl and Brazilian pastry orders for group events represent the largest production runs the kitchen handles.
