Founded in 2016 in University Heights by Steven Torres and Thai-born Executive Chef Gan Suebsarakham (MBA from National University, culinary training at Grossmont College), Pop Pie Co. opened its 2,128-square-foot Ocean Beach branch at 4195 Voltaire next to Cesarina inside the former Coffee Bean space. The signature all-butter laminated 5-inch hand-held savory pies — Steak and Ale, Chicken Pot, Aussie Meat with Vegemite and Worcestershire-sautéed beef, vegetable yellow curry — anchor a globally-inspired pastry program that overlaps the Voltaire Street bakery corridor shared with Azucar. Sister concept Stella Jean's Ice Cream operates a small-batch parlor inside the same OB storefront, layering ube-pandesal, calamansi creamsicle, and seasonal sweet flavors onto the affogato and dessert-pie menu. A short craft-beer-on-tap program runs alongside the savory pies, mirroring the beer-with-baked-dough format that put neighborhood anchor Pizza Port Ocean Beach on the OB map for thick-crust pizza pairings. The 9-inch full-size whole sweet pies — blueberry-apple-yuzu crumble with candied lemon, key lime, mixed berry — handle the catering and Thanksgiving-and-Christmas dessert-order season that drives Pop Pie's largest production runs out of the OB butter-crust kitchen.
