Iconic cocktail lounge and restaurant at 1132 Prospect St inside the historic La Valencia Hotel in La Jolla, 92037, fully revived in 2024 after more than a decade dark. The SDCM Restaurant Group partnered with La Valencia to restore this storied institution — and its return puts it within a short walk of NINE-TEN Restaurant & Bar at the Grande Colonial, giving Prospect two of La Jolla's most pedigreed hotel dining rooms on the same stretch. Emerald banquettes, brass pendant lights, and the original Wing Howard mural are all back, alongside Executive Chef Brian Redzikowski's modern California menu. The Whaler cocktail (cognac, coffee liqueur, Shanky's Whip, and homemade ice cream, invented 1965) is still the signature order. The food is equally compelling: lobster rolls, braised short rib bao, and a Caesar salad crowned with mascarpone-filled Twinkie croutons. Happy hour runs daily 3–5pm — and the bar stays open until midnight Thursday through Saturday, when Le Coq on Herschel is the only other Village kitchen still matching that energy.
