French Asian steakhouse at 7837 Herschel Ave in La Jolla Village, 92037, from James Beard Award finalist Chef Tara Monsod and the Puffer Malarkey Collective — occupying the historic 1930s Oldsmobile warehouse that previously housed Herringbone. Opened June 2024, Le Coq is Monsod's bold reimagining of French steakhouse cuisine through an Asian American lens: tamarind-glazed duck with kumquat and chicory, chicken liver mousse croquettes with sauce gribiche (a full week to make), yellowtail with cherry and shallot jam, onion tart with short rib and Gruyère, and a pistachio Paris-Brest developed by pastry chef Laura Warren. Exposed brick, red velvet booths, and a 36-foot circular bar set the scene. Reserve in advance; this is one of San Diego's most talked-about dining rooms.
