Iconic cocktail lounge and restaurant at 1132 Prospect St inside the historic La Valencia Hotel in La Jolla, 92037, fully revived in 2024 after more than a decade dark. The SDCM Restaurant Group partnered with La Valencia to restore this storied institution — emerald banquettes, brass pendant lights, and the original Wing Howard mural are all back, alongside Executive Chef Brian Redzikowski's modern California menu. The Whaler cocktail (cognac, coffee liqueur, Shanky's Whip, and homemade ice cream, invented 1965) is still the signature order. The food is equally compelling: lobster rolls, braised short rib bao, and a Caesar salad crowned with mascarpone-filled Twinkie croutons. Happy hour runs daily 3–5pm. The bar stays open until midnight Thursday through Saturday. Reservations recommended for dinner; walk-ins welcome at the bar.
