Tivoli Bar and Grill in downtown San Diego's Gaslamp Quarter has operated continuously as a saloon since 1885 on a lot at 505 Sixth Avenue originally owned by city founder Alonzo Horton, making it the oldest bar in the Gaslamp district. The original wooden bar was handcrafted in Boston and shipped to San Diego around Cape Horn, and it still serves pints today alongside the original turn-of-the-century cash register and safe — artifacts from the same Stingaree District era that shaped the speakeasy revival at Prohibition Lounge blocks away. Wyatt Earp frequented the saloon after arriving in San Diego in the 1880s following the Gunfight at the O.K. Corral, and his photo hangs among the memorabilia covering the walls alongside portraits of Pacific Coast League baseball players and prizefighters. The Romero family has owned and operated the bar since 1972, maintaining the San Diego historically designated building's saloon character through downtown's transformation into the modern Petco Park entertainment district that now feeds pre-game traffic to Bub's at the Ballpark and surrounding sports bars.
