About

East Fortuna Staging Area serves as Santee's primary eastern gateway into the 8,000-acre Mission Trails Regional Park at the intersection of State Route 52 and Mast Boulevard. The trailhead feeds directly into the North Fortuna and South Fortuna summit routes — the two legs of the Mission Trails 5-Peak Challenge that draw the heaviest trail traffic past Al's Sport Shop on Mission Gorge Road. Parking accommodates 47 standard vehicles and up to 15 rigs with horse trailers, and four 12-by-12-foot horse corrals stage equestrian access to seven miles of shared-use trail. The 12-acre multi-use staging area also houses the East Fortuna Field Station — a ranger facility with offices, conference room, ADA-compliant footbridge, and native-plant bioswale landscaping — anchoring a Mast Boulevard recreation zone that extends west toward Broken Yolk Cafe on Mission Gorge Road. Trail elevations across the East Fortuna plateau reach 1,291 feet at North Fortuna's summit, the third-highest peak within Mission Trails Regional Park and a route historically used for Camp Elliott artillery training during World War II.
