Mark it down: August 15, 2026, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., Third Avenue in downtown Chula Vista. The Lemon Festival is back, and it's free.
This is the annual street festival that celebrates Chula Vista's history as the "Lemon Capital of the World." Before the subdivisions, before the malls, before the bayfront hotels, Chula Vista was citrus country. Lemon groves covered the hills east of the bay, and the industry defined the local economy for decades. The Lemon Festival keeps that history alive with food, music, and a full-day takeover of Third Avenue.
What to Expect
Live entertainment runs throughout the day on multiple stages. Food vendors line the street with lemon-themed dishes and drinks alongside standard festival fare. A kids zone offers games and activities for younger visitors. Artisan vendors sell crafts and local products. The Downtown Chula Vista Association organizes the event, and local businesses along the avenue join in with specials and outdoor seating.
Third Avenue between E Street and G Street is the festival's main footprint. That puts the event right in the middle of Chula Vista's brewery and restaurant row. 3 Punk Ales will be steps away. Filippi's Pizza Grotto, Suzette, and Mujer Divina all sit along the festival route. If you get tired of the festival food, you've got a block full of sit-down options.
Why It Matters
The Lemon Festival is one of those events that shows what Chula Vista actually is in 2026. Not a suburb. Not a pass-through on I-5 to the border. It's a city with a downtown that's working, with independent restaurants and breweries that draw people from across the South Bay, and with a history that goes deeper than most people realize. The citrus groves are gone, but the Citrus Bay Park development on the old Sears site near Broadway is named for the same heritage. So is the festival.
If you're coming from outside Chula Vista, take I-5 to E Street and head east. Street parking is available but fills up fast. Get there early. Ride the trolley if you can. Pair the festival with a visit to Living Coast Discovery Center on the bayfront, or grab dinner afterward at Savoie Italian Eatery or Romesco Mexiterranean Bistro in nearby Bonita.
Admission is free. All ages are welcome. No tickets required. Just show up.
