About

Rio-trained surfboard shaper working the craft since 1976, the Point Loma Shaping Lessons and Shaping Room Rentals program at 4941 Pacific Hwy teaches foam blank shaping and ding-repair classes. Students book shaping-room time by the hour to work their own blanks, learning templates, rockers, and rail profiles — the same fundamentals used by local production shapers like Sharp Eye Surf Boards for full-run pro-level boards. The curriculum covers blank selection, rocker lines, rail bands, concave and vee bottoms, glassing schedules, and fin-box installation — the full shape-to-glass sequence that produces a ridable board from a raw polyurethane or EPS blank. Ding-repair instruction runs as a separate track, teaching fiberglass lamination, polyester and epoxy resin work, and color-match techniques — the identical skill set Nick's Surfboard Repair applies commercially as a pure repair-service operation on the same corridor. Upper-level students book extended shaping-room sessions to produce custom full-builds, moving from foam blank through hot-coat and final sand-finish across multiple sessions — the craft arc that production shapers condense into a day and students stretch across weeks.
