Launched in 1986 as a 92-by-25-foot long-range sportfisher out of Point Loma, Royal Star Sport Fishing pioneered the use of refrigerated saltwater fish holds on the San Diego fleet. The vessel docks at Fisherman's Landing at 2838 Garrison Street as part of the long-range fleet that runs multi-week offshore trips to Baja and the outer Pacific banks. Twelve air-conditioned staterooms each carry cedar-lined closets, drawer storage, and bunks no shorter than 7 feet, an accommodations package designed around the multi-week passenger load the boat was built to host. The RSW refrigerated saltwater fish hold system Royal Star pioneered in 1986 is now standard equipment across the Fisherman's Landing long-range fleet, which shares the Garrison Street dock with Excel Sportsfishing. The flagship program is multi-week long-range offshore trips targeting trophy yellowfin and bluefin tuna on the Baja passage, with a limited passenger load per sailing that prioritizes rail space and galley seating per angler over raw capacity.
