About

Running a 112-foot USCG-certified steel-hull long-range vessel out of Point Loma, Independence Sportfishing operates from the 1403 Scott Street landing off the Sunset Cliffs peninsula as part of San Diego's Baja-bound offshore fleet. The aluminum superstructure paired with a steel hull cuts weight for offshore drift stability, and 18,000 gallons of fuel feeding twin 1,500-horsepower engines carry a 6,000-mile cruising range that draws long-range anglers to pre-trip tackle runs at Squidco Fishing before boarding. Thirteen air-conditioned two- and three-passenger staterooms each carry private sinks, satellite TV with DVD, and reading lights over every bunk, stretch-out accommodations that matter on the multi-week trips defining the long-range fleet. A 700-plus scoop bait well keeps live anchovies and sardines fresh across the full Baja run, and four extra-large refrigerated fish holds with 250 rod holders handle tournament-scale cow yellowfin catches without compromising quality at the rail. Fish are filleted and chilled or fully frozen onboard for the trip home, the same preservation standard that keeps Pacific bluefin and yellowtail retail-fresh through Point Loma's waterfront counters at Point Loma Seafoods. Flagship charter windows run up to 16 days offshore, pushing past the Revillagigedo Islands into Clarion-area waters where trophy wahoo, yellowfin over 300 pounds, and striped marlin define the long-range fleet's target species.
