About

501(c)(3) nonprofit improv theater Mockingbird Improv operates in Point Loma inside Liberty Station's ARTS DISTRICT since February 2022. The company descends from the 2020-closed Old Town Improv Co. and shares the Liberty Station arts campus with Cygnet Theatre across the historic Navy Training Center plaza. Shows run Thursday through Sunday inside Studio 200 at Liberty Station Building 176, also known as the Dorothea Laub Music & Arts Center, paired with five-level adult classes and a separate youth-and-pre-teen improv track. Programming spans Improv vs Stand-Up, the fully improvised telenovela LIRRER, All Hands On Deck, improvised musicals, old-time radio play KBRD, and SmackDown Sunday team competitions. The theater sits at the Truxtun Road corner of Liberty Station's performing-arts core, a short walk from The Joan and Irwin Jacobs Performing Arts Center. An inclusive community-access ticket pricing model keeps the theater accessible to San Diego residents and newcomers pursuing live comedy programming. The most complex programming runs ticketed weekend show blocks paired with multi-level curricular class schedules and rotating guest-artist residencies from Chicago, NYC, and LA improv lineages.
