About

Founded in 2007 as TMA BlueTech, The Maritime Alliance in Point Loma is a 501(c)(6) industry cluster organizer that connects ocean-technology companies, defense contractors, and research institutions from its Liberty Station headquarters on Historic Decatur Road. The alliance's dual-use innovation pipeline accelerates autonomous sensing, data-integration, and maritime-security technologies in partnership with defense research organizations including Mitre Corporation, which operates its own Point Loma San Diego office. A BlueTech Week conference series held each November at the Liberty Station Conference Center draws global delegations from Norway, Japan, Korea, and the United Kingdom to showcase ocean-intelligence platforms and subsea autonomy systems. Workforce development programs co-produced with MiraCosta College and Scripps Institution of Oceanography create career pathways in marine engineering, ocean observation, and coastal-resilience planning. The StartBlue Ocean Enterprise Accelerator, backed by a NOAA grant and housed at UC San Diego, gives early-stage companies in the alliance's network access to Rady School of Management mentorship alongside the maritime-systems research at Scientific Research Corporation's San Diego facility. TMA's most complex annual deliverable is BlueTech Month, a multi-city, multi-partner initiative spanning San Francisco to San Diego that stages capability forums, international trade missions, and live ocean-technology demonstrations across government, academic, and commercial venues.
