About

Director Jushua Mayo founded Mayo Acro & Dance in Point Loma's Liberty Station in 2017, specializing in acro, tumbling, jazz, contemporary, and hip-hop dance for children and teens. The Suite 204 program runs a blended performing-arts curriculum that parallels the musical-theater and dance training at Theatre Arts School of San Diego. At the 2017 launch Mayo brought in more than a decade of dance and teaching experience, structuring the studio around progression-based acro drills that move dancers safely from forward rolls and handstands up through walkovers, aerials, and stunting. The Liberty Station address places Mayo Acro & Dance inside the same Dorothea Laub Dance Place shared by San Diego Ballet, Malashock Dance, and several other tenants, a co-location that gives students exposure to multiple company styles inside one building. Acro training compresses hands, wrists, and shoulders under full body-weight loads, a stress profile that routes Mayo families toward dance-literate sports physical therapy at Rehab United Physical Therapy - Point Loma when an injury does surface. The most demanding work at the studio is the progression up the acro ladder to aerials and back-handsprings, which requires the sprung floors and ceiling clearance of the Dance Place facility rather than a typical dance-studio or gymnastics-floor setup.
