Naval Base Point Loma

Military Facilities

About

Accessible through the Sylvester Road gate at the southern end of the Point Loma, San Diego peninsula, Naval Base Point Loma is a multi-mission installation encompassing seven distinct facilities that support submarine operations, undersea research, and information-warfare development across 92106. The base's waterfront hosts Los Angeles-class fast-attack submarines assigned to Submarine Squadron Eleven and serves as a staging area for fleet exercises recognized during annual events organized by the San Diego Fleet Week Foundation. On-base tenant commands range from COMSUBPAC detachments and the Submarine Learning Center to meteorological and oceanographic research units that leverage the peninsula's deep-water adjacency for at-sea sensor testing. Service members transitioning out of active duty access employment-readiness and housing-assistance resources through organizations like Veterans Village of San Diego on nearby Pacific Highway. The installation's most complex infrastructure program is the ongoing AUKUS submarine-sustainment initiative, which is expanding dry-dock and maintenance capacity to accommodate allied submarine rotational forces under the 2023 trilateral agreement.
