Led by an IBJJF No-Gi World Champion at black belt, Tama Jiu-Jitsu in Point Loma's Midway District offers Gi and No-Gi Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu from Hancock Street. An in-house strength-and-conditioning area shares the building with Mighty Fit SD, giving competitors a single-location workflow from barbell warm-up through live rolling. The curriculum spans fundamentals classes covering takedowns, guard sweeps, and escapes through advanced sessions focused on the academy's signature leg-lock system, including the competition-tested Tama Lock. The head instructor—the first Hispanic athlete to capture an adult black belt IBJJF world title—also took gold at the 2024 IBJJF San Diego Open under a Team Predador banner, and the repetitive joint torque from heel hooks and knee bars responds well to the functional-movement assessments at Movement1st Chiropractic. Private lessons pair white-to-brown belts with the head instructor for frame-by-frame technique correction on guard passing, back takes, and submission chains tailored to each athlete's competition weight class.
