Wagner's School of Music

Music & Art Lessons

About

Founded 1976, Wagner's School of Music in Point Loma teaches the proprietary Wagner Piano Method from its Dewey Road studio. The Wagner family built the group-piano curriculum around parent-pages, spatial-awareness rhythm drills, and a social ensemble format, a classical-foundation track distinct from the band-performance model at nearby School of Rock. The curriculum operates under new ownership since 2019, with additional studios in La Mesa, La Jolla, Encinitas, and Kailua, Hawaii beyond the Point Loma branch. Early-childhood music lessons cover ages zero to five with parent-child participation, then transition into group piano and keyboard classes for ages five to twelve that build rhythm, reading, spatial awareness, and ensemble listening. Recital performance is baked into the program — students advance through curriculum levels that culminate in solo and duet public performances, a piano-centered pedagogy that complements the multi-instrument private-lesson model at Songbirds Music. Advanced students progress through the Wagner Method's upper levels toward public recital repertoire, sight-reading, basic music-theory composition, and multi-student ensemble arrangements that prepare them for high school music programs and continued university study.
