The Charter School of San Diego

About

SDUSD's original 1993 charter authorization, The Charter School of San Diego anchors Point Loma's independent-study middle- and high-school network from Suite D at 3145 Rosecrans Street near Liberty Station. The 6-12 WASC-accredited school uses a university model — one or two courses at a time, completed in three to four weeks — and supplemental math for learners needing scaffolding through algebra and pre-calculus sequences frequently sits at Mathnasium. Curriculum is UC A-G approved and NCAA approved, so credits transfer cleanly into four-year universities and Division I and II athletic eligibility tracks. The school serves as the founding campus of the Altus Schools network, which has expanded to eight sites across Southern California since 2001 while retaining the original personalized-learning model at every location. Writing and reading coaching outside the On-Demand teacher appointments sometimes routes through The Treehouse Academy for students needing structured-literacy support between Resource Center visits. The most complex engagement is the hybrid flex-based graduation pathway combining one-on-one On-Demand teacher sessions, small-group labs, California Cadet Corps leadership programming, and individualized credit-recovery plans for students transferring in from traditional school settings.
