Nonprofit micro-school founded in 2021, The Treehouse Academy operates two Point Loma studios inside Building 176 and Barracks 2 at Liberty Station's Arts District. The TK-through-8th-grade program uses multi-age studios with individualized curriculum plans drawn from Montessori, Reggio Emilia, and Waldorf methods, a micro-school model distinct from the daycare-with-coworking structure at The New Haven. Three studios scale by developmental stage — Sprout for the youngest cohort working primarily with Montessori materials, Discovery with Chromebook-based adaptive math and supplemental reading, and Journey for upper elementary and middle grades working extended project-based learning. Friday field trips across San Diego anchor each week's curriculum in hands-on exploration, a weekly excursion cadence that differentiates the micro-school format from the fixed classroom schedule at peninsula public campuses including Explorer Elementary School. The deepest curricular work pulls Journey Studio students into extended multi-week projects combining outdoor education, art, music, and character-development goals, producing presentations and portfolio work that students share with the full Treehouse community at quarterly showcase events.
