Independently owned since 1986, SOMA San Diego runs an all-ages concert venue in Point Loma next to Pechanga Arena under founder Len Paul. The Mainstage holds 2,300 patrons across a 42-foot stage powered by an L-Acoustics sound system, offering a standing-room punk-and-alt format that differs sharply from seated concerts at Humphreys Concerts by the Bay a few miles southwest. The 500-capacity Sidestage pairs a 30-foot platform with a MIDAS M32 Digital Console for smaller bills, and both rooms operate inside the shell of a former multiplex movie theater where interior walls were demolished during the 2002 conversion to create the unified Mainstage floor. Programming has drawn Radiohead, Eddie Vedder, Nine Inch Nails, Green Day, Blink-182, Chance the Rapper, and Billie Eilish across the decades, while the strictly all-ages format for most bills has made the venue a first-stage target for students emerging from Point Loma music programs including School of Rock. A 2019 booking partnership with Live Nation handles talent routing while SOMA itself stays independently owned, with the largest touring hardcore, punk, and hip-hop productions drawing Mainstage loads at or near the 2,300-person cap representing the most operationally complex nights.
