Open every day since 1969, Campland on the Bay was one of the first commercial leaseholds on Mission Bay and remains the longest continuously operated campground on the water in San Diego. The same management team has run the property since 1977, and several staff members have logged more than thirty years on the grounds—an almost unheard-of tenure in hospitality. The resort spans 40 acres and holds over 560 campsites ranging from primitive tent pads to Super Sites outfitted with a private patio, jacuzzi, grill, and dedicated guest parking. A 124-slip marina anchors the waterfront, and guests can rent kayaks, paddleboards, and bicycles without leaving the property or head to Mission Bay Golf Course and Practice Center for a quick nine holes across the bay. One of management's first projects in 1977 was planting more than 1,100 trees; those trees now canopy the resort and double as habitat for herons, egrets, and other local wildlife. USA Today named Campland one of the Top 10 Urban Campgrounds in the country, and its 4.5-star Google rating across 3,300-plus reviews backs that distinction. The Campland Cantina serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner with a full bar, and live bands perform on the waterfront stage throughout the summer season. Groceries for cookouts are easy to handle with Trader Joe's located a short drive down the road, and four EV chargers installed in cooperation with the California Coastal Commission stand open to campers and the public alike. An off-leash dog park called Dogwood Park gives four-legged guests room to run, with a maximum of three dogs per campsite. The slogan "Campland Raised" started as marketing copy but became literal—multiple generations of the same families now return annually, some having camped here since the gates first opened more than fifty years ago.
