About

A quiet stretch of Cass Street in North Pacific Beach is home to Enoteca Adriano, an intimate Italian restaurant at 4864 Cass St, 92109, that has been a neighborhood fixture since 2009. The restaurant was founded by Italian-born chef Francesco Tassone, who grew up in a family of six chefs and restaurateurs before moving to San Diego in 1989. Tassone became an early pioneer in the city's Gaslamp District, helping to open La Strada, and later ran La Terrazza in La Jolla Cove from 1992 to 2004. In late 2024, Tassone passed the torch to fellow Italian-born chef Giuseppe Ciuffa, a Rome native who moved to La Jolla in 1998. Ciuffa built his career with Giuseppe Restaurants & Fine Catering, Bottega Americano in East Village, and Caroline's Seaside Café at the Scripps Forum. Another Italian destination in PB, Sauced Pizzeria on Ingraham St, takes a more casual red-sauce approach with hand-tossed pies and hearty lasagna. Under Ciuffa's ownership, Enoteca Adriano now serves what he calls Roman-forward cuisine — locally sourced, modern Italian dishes that honor tradition while embracing creativity. The wine program showcases selections from across Italy's wine regions, with more than 30 options available by the glass and bottle. Guests can dine in the main room or on the heated outdoor patio, where vintage Italian movies are projected on a big screen on select evenings. Reviewers regularly praise the fresh burrata wrapped in prosciutto and the lobster ravioli with tiger shrimp, and manager Barbara has become a familiar face to regulars who appreciate her attentive, welcoming style. Reservations through OpenTable are recommended, especially for dinner. Mediterranean-inspired cocktails and small plates are also available down Garnet Ave at Slowly Restaurant and Lounge, the newest concept from Landini's Restaurant Group. Tassone, meanwhile, has relocated part-time to Italy where he plans to open Gnocchi Franco, a gnocchi-focused restaurant near Verona.
