About

What started with a single Black Cobra chili plant in 2010 grew into Uncle Keith's Gourmet Foods, a Black-owned, veteran-owned gourmet grocery store at Pangaea Outpost, 909 Garnet Ave, San Diego, CA 92109. Founder Keith Fairley and his wife Crystal opened the shop on Memorial Day weekend 2015 after years of perfecting hot sauces from exotic peppers like Trinidad Moruga Scorpions and Chocolate Habaneros sourced from Lakeside grower Jim Duffy. The store's name came from Keith's close bond with children at his church, where a friend's daughter suggested the "Uncle" title that stuck. Featured in SDVoyager as a Pacific Beach hidden gem, the self-funded business operates under parent company 238 Goods and Services LLC and showcases spicy products from Southern California makers alongside its own line of sauces and jellies, much like the curated local goods found at Staples down the avenue for everyday essentials. Keith's career in the tech industry has taken him across Europe, Taiwan, and Korea, where coworkers who sampled his sauces encouraged him to sell commercially. The shop stocks hot sauces at every heat level, from mild fruit-forward blends to ghost pepper concoctions, and also ships nationwide through Amazon. With four San Diego locations now spanning La Jolla, La Mesa, and Mission Valley, Visitors can pair a bottle of Sweet Heat, the sauce that launched the brand in 2013, with tacos and craft cocktails at The Duck Dive just blocks west on Garnet. With four San Diego locations now spanning La Jolla, La Mesa, and Mission Valley, Uncle Keith's has grown well beyond its original Pangaea Outpost booth while keeping Pacific Beach as its flagship home.
