About

Tavern at the Beach has anchored the corner of Garnet Avenue and Everts Street since 1997, operating as a bar, grill, cocktail bar, and sports bar at 1200 Garnet Ave in San Diego, CA 92109. Co-founders Mark Cirillo and Joe Vaught purchased the property nearly three decades ago, and partner Eric Lingenfelder joined shortly after to form the Verant Group, a San Diego-based hospitality collective that now operates seven bars and restaurants across California. The venue occupies one of the most historic buildings in coastal Pacific Beach, renovated with industrial-styled garage doors that open onto a street-side patio where ocean breezes mix with the hum of Garnet Avenue foot traffic. Inside, a massive central bar stretches beneath a rustic open-beamed ceiling, and more than 42 HD televisions ensure a sightline to every major game from any seat in the house. Craft beer drinkers can choose from over 30 handles on tap alongside an extensive boutique bourbon selection, and Pacific Beach AleHouse offers another strong draft lineup just a short walk east on the same avenue. The full-service kitchen has earned a reputation for turning out one of the most talked-about burgers in San Diego, backed by a broader menu of elevated comfort food built on locally sourced ingredients. Sunday brunch draws a dedicated following with mimosa specials, and happy hour runs Monday through Thursday from 2 to 6 PM and Fridays from 2 to 7 PM with half-off drinks. After dark, a live DJ transforms the space into a dance floor, with bottle service and private event bookings available through the events team. The health department most recently scored the kitchen at 97 out of 100. Verant Group alumni have gone on to shape the neighborhood — former Tavern General Manager Krista Barrella now runs bar Ella Pacific Beach, her own cocktail-driven concept just up Garnet Avenue. The venue is 21 and over only.
