Spanning more than 15,000 square feet on Garnet Avenue, Mavericks Beach Club is a bar, restaurant, and nightclub at 860 Garnet Ave in 92109 that opened in early 2018 on the site of the former Pacific Beach Bar & Grill. Eric Lingenfelder, Mark Cirillo, and David Cohen of the Verant Group purchased the property in 2015 and leveled the old building for a top-to-bottom reconstruction designed by Bluemotif Architecture, the firm behind San Diego hotspots like Juniper & Ivy, The Crack Shack, and Kettner Exchange. The result is a multi-level complex with five indoor and outdoor bars, more than 40 flat-screen televisions, VIP booths, fire pits, backyard games, and a rear nightclub space that has occupied the lot since its earlier life as Club Tremors. Verant Group Corporate Executive Chef Kevin Templeton oversees a Baja-inspired food menu highlighted by wings that regulars call the best in PB. Lingenfelder, a San Diego native and SDSU Communications graduate, has spent more than 25 years in the restaurant industry and previously served as president of the Pacific Beach Business Improvement District. The same ownership group also runs Tavern at the Beach, their original PB establishment dating back to 1997. Weekly programming includes half-off happy hour Monday through Friday, Taco Tuesdays with three-dollar-fifty tacos, trivia on Wednesdays, and college night on Thursdays. Weekend brunch runs until 1 p.m. with bottomless champagne and slushie buckets. Night owls looking for another high-energy venue nearby can head to 710 Beach Club for live music and a dance floor. Mavericks holds a 97-out-of-100 health score, a 4.1-star Google average over 1,500 reviews, and welcomes dogs on its expansive patio.
