About

Second location of the 2004-founded Mission Hills seafood market run by two Point Loma High alums and lifelong San Diego watermen, Blue Water Seafood opened its 2,500-square-foot Ocean Beach outpost in 2019 at 5083 Santa Monica Avenue, one block off the OB Pier and steps from Dog Beach. The OB build-out was a partnership with Social Syndicate, the operator running adjacent OB Surf Lodge on the same retail pad — making the seafood-market-and-restaurant pairing a single-operator dining cluster at the foot of Newport Avenue. Glass-encased fish counters at the entrance display whole local catch sourced directly from San Diego and Baja fishermen, with portions cut and marinaded to order rather than held in a prep station. The build-your-own workflow lets customers choose the fish, the marinade, and the format — taco, salad, sandwich, or plate — with cioppino, clam chowder, ceviche, ahi poke, and the house Track Taco running as fixed signatures alongside the choose-your-own line. Sustainable family-estate wines and a local craft-beer tap list round out the bar program, served in the same retail cluster as Wonderland Ocean Pub's gastropub kitchen at 5083 Santa Monica. Private events and rehearsal dinners use the whole-fish display case as a working centerpiece, with chef-coordinated menus built from the day's local landings rather than a fixed seafood spec sheet.
