About

Wonderland Ocean Pub takes its name and decor from the 1913 Wonderland Amusement Park — the first amusement park in San Diego, with the West Coast's largest roller coaster and a zoo of 350 monkeys before storms destroyed the park in 1916 — and now occupies the former Nick's at the Pier space on the second floor of Santa Monica Avenue with open-window views from the OB Pier north toward La Jolla. The Pier Pub side functions as a 40-plus-television sports bar with full sports packages, a different live-room format than the music-venue work at The Harp elsewhere on the OB pub corridor. The kitchen runs what the original opening called "islander coastal" — fish ceviche, grilled fish tacos, ahi tuna wraps, fisherman's stew, oysters, and the signature New England-style chowder fries (natural-cut fries smothered in clam chowder, jack and cheddar, fresh clams, and bacon). Local craft taps include AleSmith and Abnormal Beer Company alongside the "Wondy" — a Skrewball Peanut Butter Whiskey frosty — and a sunset-toast tradition where the room rings a bell as the sun drops behind the Pacific, a more specific drink-and-ritual format than the broader pub menu at OB Surf Lodge. The semi-private Pier Pub seating area handles weddings, large group buyouts, and event bookings with the same elevated pier-and-ocean views, the highest-value private-event format the property runs.
