Operating as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit since it rebranded the former OB Playhouse in January 2024, Wildsong Theatre & Arts Collective occupies a 3,800-square-foot former VFW hall at 4944 Newport Ave — secured through a community campaign that raised over $11,000 in one month. The all-volunteer company stages musical theater, including Sweeney Todd, Footloose, and Something Rotten, in a space where Newport Ave's creative energy intersects with visual-arts hubs like SHIFT Gallery & Gatherings. Ticket revenue cycles entirely back into the venue, funding a planned dance studio, raised seating, and upgraded sound system. Youth programming and inclusive casting are core to the mission, building a performer pipeline that connects to training institutions like Point Loma Arts Academy on the peninsula. The most ambitious productions feature live orchestration and choreography staged within arm's reach of the front row, a black-box intimacy that full-proscenium theaters cannot replicate.
