Point Loma Summer Concerts is the 501(c)(3) volunteer-run free outdoor concert series founded in 2001 by Bridget Cantu Wear, now in its 26th season at Point Loma Park, 1049 Catalina Boulevard. Five consecutive Friday-evening shows each July and August feature a junior stage band warm-up followed by a tribute or genre headliner, with overflow parking and a free shuttle running between the park and the All Souls' Episcopal Church / Bach Collegium San Diego lot at 1475 Catalina Boulevard. Raffle ticket revenue — separate from gate, which remains free — funds music education grants in Point Loma Cluster public schools, with roughly 30% of the $160,000 production budget covered by raffle and city grants and 70% by sponsorship. Volunteer collaboration spans the Point Loma Association, Peninsula Lions Club, Point Loma Optimist Club, Point Loma Rotary, Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, and the Peninsula Recreation Council. The series encourages picnics over table service, and attendees commonly assemble spreads from neighborhood bakers — the tres-leches and guava pastries from Azucar being a recurring concert-blanket fixture. The most complex production element is the dual-stage technical run: a junior-band changeover into the main act, a new 8-by-14-foot digital backdrop screen, bike-valet coordination through Moment Bicycles, and live sponsor billboard messaging requested by SMS during the show.
