Founded in 2012 by a dance educator holding a Master’s in Dance Education and a BFA from San Diego State—a performer on stage since the early 1980s who also founded Kruciaal Element Hip Hop Dance Company in 2002—The Dancehouse operates a 1,300-square-foot warehouse studio at 2176 Chatsworth Blvd in Ocean Beach. The class schedule spans hip hop, contemporary, ballet, salsa, and yoga for youth and adults at every skill level, with the yoga component reinforcing the mobility and breath-control conditioning offered at Yoga Box and other movement spaces across OB’s wellness scene. A full mirrored wall, hardwood flooring with a vinyl overlay for tap and folklorico, ballet barres, a six-channel PA with wireless microphones, and stage curtains with theater lighting convert the warehouse into a functional black-box theater seating 75. Seven resident companies—Kruciaal Element, Bite Dance Company, Iroko San Diego, House of Psyche, Catalyst Dance Ensemble, Malone Academy of Irish Dance, and Visual Stimulus Events—rehearse and stage productions on-site, generating a rotating performance calendar. That event infrastructure also hosts comedy nights, fashion shows, music releases, and private celebrations, positioning the warehouse alongside community gathering spaces such as Pier To Point Yoga & Wellness Center’s event programming. The most production-intensive bookings are full-evening multi-company dance showcases staged with programmed sound cues, dedicated lighting plots, and curtained wing entrances for a seated audience of 75.
