Founded in 1986 as the 501(c)(3) charitable arm of USTA Southern California, the SCTA Foundation has distributed more than one million dollars in tennis grants and scholarships since 2020 from its administrative address on West Point Loma Boulevard. Youth-tennis grant recipients include community recreation programs such as the T. Claude and Gladys B. Ryan Family YMCA, where racket sports run within the broader youth athletic and aquatics programming menu. Equipment grants cover rackets, practice balls, and net systems for high school and 10-and-Under programs across Southern California. Coaching-education grants underwrite USPTA, PTR, and USTA Coaching Fundamentals workshops for high school coaches, including the recent RSPA San Diego Team Coaching Workshop the foundation sponsored in 2026. Adult and senior-tennis access programming is funded at multi-purpose community sites; the Peninsula Community Senior Center is the OB-area site where active-aging recreation programming runs in parallel with the foundation's adult-tennis access mission. The foundation's most involved annual undertaking is its sponsorship and volunteer staffing of USTA Pro Circuit events, including the Cymbiotika San Diego Open WTA 500 and the ATP 250 hosted at Barnes Tennis Center.
