Newbreak Coffee & Cafe has roasted its own beans on site since 1993, taking its name from a remote Sunset Cliffs surf break the founding crew first paddled out to in the 1970s. The Abbott Street location holds a counter-and-patio footprint one row off the OB seawall, on the same beachfront-cafe circuit as Sine Wave Cafe and other boardwalk-adjacent OB operations. The breakfast menu runs all-day egg dishes, bagels, breakfast burritos including the signature Breakfast Carnitas Burrito (eggs, carnitas, cheddar, avocado, cilantro, salsa), and a Birchirmuesli bowl of fruit, oats, yogurt, strawberries, and walnuts. House-baked bagels and a small house-pastry case run the bakery side, with the early-morning doughnut traffic on the same Voltaire-and-Newport stretch handled by Phatties Bake Shop a quarter-mile inland. A wall of loose-leaf teas and a small gelato counter round out the drink-and-cold case, with WiFi and abundant outlets supporting the laptop-and-meeting crowd that fills the seating area. Wholesale roasted-coffee accounts and private-label bag programs supply OB cafes, surf-shop counters, and small grocery operations with Newbreak-roasted beans, building a B2B coffee-distribution arm on top of the Abbott Street counter operation.
