About

Lindo Lake County Park in Lakeside surrounds one of San Diego County's only natural freshwater lakes, covering 55 acres along Lindo Lane in the heart of downtown Lakeside. A 1.2-mile ADA-accessible loop trail circles the lake's two basins, forming the anchor of a recreational campus on Lindo Lane that extends to the neighboring San Diego County Library – Lakeside on Woodside Avenue. The west basin holds the park's primary water volume, while the east basin serves as a seasonal overflow area restored in a 2020-2022 project that removed over 200,000 tons of accumulated sediment and planted more than 260 native trees. Waterfowl populations include herons, pelicans, egrets, ruddy ducks, American coots, and rare species such as cinnamon teal, stilts, and avocets — drawing birdwatchers to the new fishing pier and two dedicated observation stations installed during the $11.2 million restoration. The park's softball field, skate park, tennis courts, horseshoe pits, and butterfly garden draw the same family-age demographics served by Montessori East County Preschool & Infant Care on Maine Avenue, a short walk from the playground area. Originally dedicated as a 45-acre public park by the El Cajon Valley Land Company in 1886, the lake was returned to county control in 1920 after a court ruling and has been maintained as a public recreation site since 1924.
