Food for Health's Lakeside pantry site, known as the Heroes Pantry, targets food insecurity among veterans, active-duty service members, and military families at 12650 Lindo Lane in Lakeside. The distribution operates inside Carter-Smith VFW Post 5867, whose War Memorial Building provides covered staging and direct access to the veteran community the program serves. Food for Health is a nationwide program of AIDS Healthcare Foundation, the world's largest HIV/AIDS healthcare organization, which expanded its food-insecurity mission to serve anyone in need regardless of health status. Each distribution delivers farm-sourced vegetables and fruits selected for dietary needs common among veteran populations, including produce suited to diabetes management and cardiovascular health plans. The Lindo Lane location places the pantry within walking distance of Lindo Lake County Park, anchoring the Heroes Pantry in the heart of Lakeside's civic corridor near the county library and community center. Launched in March 2024, the site began with bi-weekly distributions and targets expansion to weekly service as volunteer capacity and donor commitments grow.
