Dual board-certified in both Dermatology and Emergency Medicine through the American Board of Medical Specialties, Dr. Michael Shane Hamman completed his Mohs Micrographic Surgery and Dermatologic Oncology fellowship at UC San Diego in 2013. His prior emergency medicine residency at the UC San Diego Health Hillcrest Emergency Department preceded his dermatology residency at the same institution, giving him workup experience with acute dermatologic emergencies such as Stevens-Johnson syndrome and necrotizing fasciitis. He serves as Assistant Clinical Professor of Dermatology at UCSD while maintaining his Mohs practice at 4060 Fourth Avenue, Suite 415 in the 92103. His peer-reviewed research in Dermatologic Surgery includes randomized controlled trials on 595-nm pulsed dye laser for basal cell carcinoma and a five-year retrospective on squamous cell carcinoma in situ upstaging. Complicated Mohs reconstructions of scalp, temple, and periocular defects are coordinated with the multidisciplinary team at McGrath Outpatient Pavilion at UC San Diego Health when flap or graft work exceeds office capacity. Surgical management of eccrine porocarcinoma and other rare adnexal skin cancers remains his highest-acuity surgical referral.
