Father Joe's Villages Thrift Store & Donation Center - Hillcrest

Thrift & Vintage

About

A retail arm of the San Diego nonprofit that provides emergency and permanent housing for more than 2,000 men, women, and children each night, this Hillcrest thrift outpost at 1457 University Ave channels every sales dollar back into meals, medical care, therapeutic childcare, addiction treatment, and vocational training programs. The store occupies a former Baras Foundation storefront west of Park Boulevard and rotates donated furniture, menswear, womenswear, children's clothing, shoes, household goods, kitchen supplies, books, and music through a constantly refreshed sales floor, overlapping the same nonprofit-thrift donor base as Assistance League of Greater San Diego. Drive-up donation drops are handled at the back lot with staff assist, and scheduled in-home pickups for larger furniture, appliances, and vehicles run through the central dispatch line at (619) 446-2101. High-value estate pieces that exceed retail floor value route to the organization's 815 Auction Warehouse on 33rd Street rather than the Hillcrest sales floor, making the University location a consistent drop point for sofas, dining sets, and bedroom suites replaced by customers of new-furniture showroom Lawrance Furniture on the same uptown corridor. The most complex intake events are full-estate furniture pickups where the dispatch team coordinates multi-room clear-outs, on-site load, transport to central sorting, and documentation for tax-deductible receipts on single items valued above the $5,000 appraisal threshold.
