Board-certified in Psychiatry through ABMS and serving as assistant professor in the UC San Diego Department of Psychiatry, Dr. Jessica L. Thackaberry practices out of the UCSD Health Hillcrest Early Psychosis Program at 350 Dickinson Street. Her clinical home inside the early-psychosis specialty clinic places her work alongside the schizophrenia-spectrum research conducted by Heline Mirzakhanian PhD at the same UCSD CARE program. Thackaberry earned her MD from the University of Washington School of Medicine in 2012 and completed her psychiatry residency at UCSD School of Medicine, where she served as chief resident in the Neurobehavioral Medicine Unit before joining the UCSD faculty in 2016. Prior posts at the San Diego County Psychiatric Hospital and the Imperial Beach Community Health Clinic shaped a career-long focus on community psychiatry for underserved populations, an outpatient adult-care orientation she shares with Dr. Kai MacDonald - Psychiatrist/Psychotherapist elsewhere on the UCSD adult psychiatry roster. The most demanding cases on her caseload are first-episode psychosis evaluations in adolescents and young adults, where rapid medication-management decisions are coordinated with the multi-disciplinary CARE team across diagnosis, family education, and long-arc recovery planning.
