About

Built to LEED Gold standards and opened in January 2019, the Mission Hills - Hillcrest/Knox Branch Library at 215 W Washington St replaced a 3,850-square-foot branch with a 15,000-square-foot facility serving six neighborhoods across the 92103 ZIP code. The children's area includes its own computer lab and themed storytime space, complementing youth arts programming available through San Diego Art Camp in the surrounding Mission Hills community. Study rooms, adult computer labs, and a community meeting room support education and civic programming for residents of Mission Hills, Hillcrest, Bankers Hill, Middletown, and Old Town. Families who also enroll children at Mission Hills Community Preschool nearby can access the branch's dedicated children's wing and early literacy collections. The branch's idea lab, equipped with 3D printers and fabrication tools, provides the neighborhood's only free-access makerspace for teens exploring STEAM prototyping and design.
